About Friends of the Hammock
The Friends of the Hammock is a non-profit group created in 1995 to
help provide support for educational, beautification, management and
charitable programs associated with the Park. We meet concurrently
with the Hammock Advisory Committee which was formed in 1964 as a way
for citizens to assist in reviewing conditions and in making recommendations
to the City Commission. Since the Advisory Committee is comprised of
7 members, the FOTH was formed to provide an outlet to the many other
people who want to be involved.
Become a Volunteer!
Volunteer work is always appreciated! Contact David White,
Volunteer Coordinator, at 727-812-4545, and he will get
you in the system. Art Finn, Parks Superintendent will take it from
there.
Our most needed activity is help in eradicating the Air Potato.
It has been listed by the Florida Exotic Pest Plant Council as one
of Florida's most invasive plant species since 1993. We have scheduled
potato pick-ups every January — but there are also drop-off buckets placed around the park for the do-it-yourselfer. Bags are provided near the entrance kiosk. |
