Birds of Hammock Park
Compiled by Harold W. Sims, Jr. • September 1981
Past Instructor of Ecology — St. Petersburg College
Past President — St. Petersburg Audubon Society, Inc.
Listed below are some of the birds that one might see as you walk along the nature trails in Dunedin's Hammock. Many of these species are found in the dense woods and are not easily seen. Some will be found along the tidal creek and drainage canals, others in the open areas. As many of the species are transient visitors, they may not always be found in The Hammock. For this reason, the bird watcher should visit The Hammock often and, when there, be watchful.
The birds are listed by common name, in the following groupings: Permanent Resident, Winter Resident, Summer Resident, and Transient Visitor. A letter after the name indicates whether the bird is found commonly (c), occasionally (o), or rarely (r).
As you walk through the Park, see how many different species
you can find!
